How to Promote a Brand New Small Business Website?

It is easy to assume that just by putting up a website online people will find you ‘naturally’. The truth is that it doesn’t matter how beautiful your website is or how great your product or service is, people will not find your website ‘naturally’. Thousands of new websites are being put online each day and every one of them is fighting for people’s attention, therefore getting people to visit a website isn’t as easy as 10 years ago. But with the right knowledge and planning, you will be to do better than 50% of other small business website owners, which is the goal of this short article – to give you easy to use tips on promoting your new business website.

As a small business you probably have a limited budget so it’s probably best to try some free methods first before spending any money, especially if you’re new to the business world. There are probably thousands of different ways to get people visit your website, but these 3 methods which I’m going to share with you would give you good results now and in the the future.

  1. Write a blog – You can write articles to help others improve their life, save time, make more profit..etc. For example, if you are in the fitness industry you can write about what exercises are good for busy people who spend most of their time in front of a computer. How about a series of mini step-by-step training tips for pregnant women? The list goes on and on, no matter what industry you’re in you can write something valuable to help others. How does doing this get you visitors? Well, search engines like Google loves fresh and useful contents, and because it’s blog the post/article you write usually get indexed within 24 hours. If the content is good, other website owners would link back to you. It’s not unusual to get hundreds of visitors to single article per day, so the quality is really important for this method.
  2. Use forums – Join a few industry specific forums and try answering people’s questions. Think about how you can help others instead of what you can get from them. With this kind o mindset, you will set yourself apart from 80% of the other forum members, since majority of the people are using forums to find solutions, advertise their website, find free stuff..etc I’m not saying don’t do any of these, but try more of the giving part FIRST and then do these. If you are able to do this you will get long term benefits and unexpected emails from potential clients/customers.
  3. Join social networking sites – Social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and Myspace are getting millions of visitors each day. It won’t be long before people are spending more time on these sites than any other mediums in life. If you have a business you need to grab a piece of each one of these goldmines because some of your competitors are already doing this, and if you don’t you will be losing more potential customers each day. Setting up a page or two on these sites is simple. If you really that busy you can just register an account and put some basic stuff like your business name and links to your products or service. Then, when you have more time you can go back to it and add more contents. If you spend just 15 minutes each day you will see some results in a month or two.
