If you have been experiencing difficulty in getting qualified traffic to your website, and you do not have an unlimited marketing budget, consider writing articles to increase your traffic and generate new customers.

Become the Expert In Your Niche
Writing and submitting articles that are related to your business, product or service can be a wonderful way to build credibility, increase your search engine rankings, and be seen as an expert in your field.

Writing quality articles is all about using keywords that are related to your product or service. The SEO tools and robots pick up your keywords, which in turn, increases your search engine rankings.

Getting Started In Article Writing
So, how do you write a good quality article? First, think about your keywords that you want to use. For example, if your product is selling environmentally friendly garbage bags, you could use keywords like ‘garbage bags’, ‘environmentally friendly.’ How about ‘earth-friendly’,’ green’ or ‘waste.’ Write your article around these keywords. Perhaps you could provide tips on how to cut down on waste, or tips on how to make sure that the bag is really environmentally-friendly. Use your imagination, and let the words flow.

Once you have written your article, you need to submit it to various article submission services. A Google or Yahoo! search will bring up dozens of sites for you to submit to. Most of them are free and easy to use. You will need to create an account before you start submitting your articles.

If you really aren’t much of a writer, there are several writing services that will write for you, using the keywords that you provide. They usually write in batches of 10 and most are reasonably priced. Do your research and find someone who you feel will do the best job for you.

You can also submit your articles to ezines or online newsletters. These are publications that publish content online and email to their distribution lists. Most ezine publishers love receiving new content and articles. Look for ezines that relate to your product or service. Using the sample above of environmentally friendly garbage bags, you would look for ezines that are ‘green’ related. A simple search should yield you dozens of results.

Don’t forget to include your resource box at the bottom of your articles. This will include your name, email, website and business name. When someone reads your article and wants more information, or wants to order your product, they just click on your link and visit your website.

When you regularly submit fresh articles and content to various sites and ezines, more and more people start visiting your site, and your traffic numbers will rise steadily month by month. In a relatively short period of time, you will see your rankings and your product orders increase, as well as your profits.

If the goal of your business isn’t to provide the best quality product or service then no search engine marketing strategy can help improving your business. No matter what industry you are in, there’re ways to improve on what you’re offering at moment. Research your competitions and find out what they offering. Then think of something which you can include to increase the perceived value of your existing products or services without increasing the cost too much. Alternatively, you could improve the quality of the existing product or service and keeping the price same as the others. Do make sure the improvements you planning to make are highly desirable in your market.

One of the many benefits is that people will talk about your service or product both online and offline. Thus, will attract “natural” links from forums, reviewers’ blog, news sites…etc Websites that rank high in the search engines are usually those who are providing high quality services or products and are focused on acquiring satisfied and engaged customers. There are many factors that can attract people to buy products or services you are offering. According to some researches made by the Gallup Organization in Nebraska; the most important element that make customers come back to a fast food shop is “the people”. People is one of the most important element in any businesses. The other important thing is having a user friendly website, this is like putting most of your products in the lower shelves so that most people can reach.

There are a number of ways to improve the usability of your website, for example, if you are selling electronic gadgets through your eCommerce store, you can make description of your products as detail as possible, include a photo for every product and make sure the shopping cart is as simple as possible.

Videos are getting more and more popular so if there’s enough requests for the same information, you could put up a series of training videos to show people how to do the most asked things. Also, you could put up videos that others have created, which are beneficial to your customers. The objective of this strategy is to provide your visitors with enough information that are related to your products or services so that they can make the right decision quickly. The additional information will also give the visitors more confident to do business with you.

The more you focus on the customer service. the better your business will be, and the better your website will rank in the search engines.

In order to overtake your competitors in the search engines you need to do what they do first, and then do it slightly better. When it comes competitive research most people tend to focus only on keywords and back links. They are important but there is one more thing that needs paying attention to, and that is the content.

You need to find out the number pages they have, the number of words on the homepage (if that’s the page you’re competing with) and the internal link structure of their website. For instance, if you see their homepage has 500+ words you now know how much content you should put on your homepage. On the other hand, they have more back links to their websites then you need to change your focus that area – you can either try contact the website owner that already linked your competitor and ask for a link exchange or you can buy links from link networks.

By looking at the contents of a website that is ranking well for your chosen can not only give clues of how they got their website there, but also ideas of what to include on your own website. Having said that, you need to look at least 5 – 10 highly established websites before making decisions of what to include and exclude.

Pay close attention to the number of QUALITY pages they have, and by that I mean pages that are highly user-focused, not search engine focused. If they have 10 articles on how to play golf for beginners, then you need to make a note of this because you’re going to do the same for your website. Write your content and make each article just slightly longer than theirs. When writing the articles try to focus on the users, not search engines. Sooner or later your visitors will notice the quality of your contents and you will start receiving hundreds of new visitors and “natural” back links.

You have to keep your eyes on what your competitors are doing and try to do just enough to stay ahead in the search engines. The key to success in the search marketing game is knowing which areas you should spend your time on and the order of doing each one of them. And you don’t need to do anything out of ordinary to achieve good results, you just need to do a little better than the person that’s ranking number one right now. In fact you don’t even need to be number one to get good results. Personally I think as long as you’re in the top 3, and you have a compelling title, your ad will get more clicks than the person above you!

Focus on what your customer wants.
You ad should answer the question of “what’s in it for them”. The better you understand needs of your audience the more focus your ad would be. Use words that they understands and avoid any industry jargons unless you know for sure that your targeted audience are familiar with them.

Write benefits, not features
Leave the product features on your website. Focus on the benefits that they will get after purchasing your products or services. Make sure the benefits are as specific as possible, for example – “XYZ dust killer cleaning solution can make your desk dust free for at least 5 days”. Avoid overused words like “high quality”, “professional”, “best”… etc.

Most people buy based on emotion, not logic.
Avoid using “hype” in your ad because most people consider hype to be old fashion and they won’t fall for that. Try not to use too much adverbs and adjectives. And definitely don’t make everything in bold and CAPS and hoping that will get people’s attentions because it won’t – it will drive people away quicker! Make it simple and believable, and back it up with some proofs or testimonials. If your offers looks or sounds too good to be true then it probably will fail. Once people have doubt in their mind, they will put a big wall in front of them and anything they reads after that will be blocked off.

The unique selling proposition
This is what separates your products or services from your competitors. Why should your customers come to you? The price factor – are you selling cheaper than your competitors? The quality factor – may be you have a product that last longer than your competitors? The service factor – your after sales support is better?

Make sure you ad is relevant to the landing page
I know this may sound obvious but I’ve seen many ads that have made this mistake. Make sure 90% of the words you use on the title are on the landing page. And the landing page should be the product’s or service’s page, instead of the home page unless you want to promote the company’s name. Doing so will increase the Adword’s relevance score of your ad, which results lower cost.

You probably have heard of Google Adword, and you probably already know that you can get visitors to your website in the matter of minutes… but did you know you can legally steal your competitors’ visitors from it. The real benefit of this is that you get the targeted traffic for a fraction of the cost, which means you will make more profit.

So how does it work? At the time of writing this, Google, Yahoo and MSN allows you to bid on brand names, company names and trademark names on their systems, and it’s 100% LEGAL. So let’s say if you bid on the keyword “Dell”, you ad will appear on the side when someone does a search for “Dell”. The number of competing ads is usually low because who wants to be ranked for the keyword “Dell” apart from the company. That’s what most people thinks, which is the reason why this concept still works because it’s not saturated yet. Just remember that you’re not limited to one brand name per ad, you can have multiple ads on different brand names. Why? Because you want to see which ad performs better. Bidding on brand names/trademark names that companies have invested a lot of money on is a way of leveraging time and money. You only want to do this on well known companies/products, which is why you need to do some research if you’re not familiar with the leaders in your industry.

The concept of this may sound simple, however, to get the maximum benefits from it you’ll need to have some good ads to grab people’s attention. It is more difficult to get people to click on your ads when they searching for your competitor’s name products or services. So do prepare to see the click through rate to be lower compared to the generic keywords, but you will also see the cost of per click is 5-10 times lower. And this is why you need to test the ads. If the results are worst than your generic keywords then try to write a different ad. If you have some good copywriting skills you will able to see more benefit from this concept. I won’t be getting into copywriting right now but if you want to learn more about it I would highly recommend Joe Vitale’s Hypnotic Writing book.

Another way to “steal” your competitors’ traffic is to buy misspelled domain names and redirect them to your website. So if someone accidently typed in “your misspelled domain” instead of your competitor’s domain, he/she will be redirected to your website. Ideally you want to buy names that have the same extension (.com .net .org .co.uk) as your competitors’ website. Even if you only get 1000 visitors in a year from that domain I’m sure you will get at least 1 customer out of that, and how much did it cost you to acquire that customer?
